JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT OF NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND RECEIVES GRANT FROM TRAVELERS FOUNDATION

Waltham, MA (4/17/15) – Junior Achievement of Northern New England (JANNE), whose mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy, has received a $7,590 grant from the Travelers Foundation, the charitable arm of Travelers.

The grant will provide JANNE’s JA in a Day to over 220 middle school students in Braintree, Massachusetts, with the help of 20 trained volunteers from Travelers.

The JA in a Day program is a fun, intensive course on business and economic concepts for elementary and middle school students. JANNE’s traditional middle school curriculum is condensed into one, action-packed and exciting day-long experience. Students learn basic economic principles, are exposed to concepts such as needs and wants, spending and earning, jobs within the community, taxes, voting, and being responsible consumers.

JA in a Day provides students with hands-on, interactive learning activities that aligns to their social studies curricula and provides the parent volunteers with a unique and rewarding team-building experience.  “Junior Achievement of Northern New England is truly grateful to Travelers for helping to make a difference in the lives of local students – our future workforce - by teaching them valuable, real-life lessons,” said Kerry Bedard, President of Junior Achievement of Northern New England.

Travelers is committed to building vibrant communities that provide opportunity. Through corporate funding and the Travelers Foundation, the company focuses its giving in three core areas: education, community development and arts & culture. Travelers committed more than $21 million in 2013 to these initiatives. The company supports and encourages its employees’ volunteer efforts. Many employees are active members of their community, and collectively perform tens of thousands of hours in volunteer service each year.
