Waltham, MA (June 18, 2015)Junior Achievement of Northern New England (JANNE), the mission of which is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy, has received a $12,000 grant from Greater Worcester Community Foundation.

The grant will provide JANNE’s programs to Worcester youth in grades k-8, helping to prepare them to live self-sustaining lives.

“We are excited to receive a grant from Greater Worcester Community Foundation to provide young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their future, and make smart academic and economic choices,” said Kerry Bedard, President of Junior Achievement of Northern New England.

This grant to JANNE will make it possible for City of Worcester students to receive innovative workforce readiness, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship education programs using trained, business and community volunteers as classroom presenters. JANNE lessons are aligned to math, English and/or social studies Common Core standards. Through activities designed to encourage problem-solving and critical thinking, students learn about money, needs versus wants, business, banking, and the world-of-work.

“Students love the [JA] programs, have fun, and are thoroughly engaged with the activities,” said Jacob Hiatt, a teacher at Magnet School in Worcester.
